I offer personalised and small-group instruction in Yoga in Te Anau, Southland. I am a certified Yoga Therapist (International Association of Yoga Therapists), Senior (Level 4) Yoga Teacher with Yoga NZ, and Yoga educator with Svastha Yoga Aotearoa.
My therapeutic work and Yoga teaching is offered with the intention of sharing tools that support greater self-awareness, contentment, and quality of life, regardless of circumstance. My teaching philosophy is based on the principles of compassion (towards ourselves and others), agency, accessibility, and knowledge.
I live in a small ‘frontier’ community of fewer than 3000 people. The remoteness, beauty, and often challenging weather in Fiordland has shaped how, what, and why I teach Yoga. Our self-reliance as a community has afforded me the opportunity to be part of a growing and supportive network of teachers, health professionals, and leaders bringing practices like Yoga into our community and educational spaces.
I have a background in science, including a PhD (Zoology) in behavioural ecology and evolutionary biology, and work as a science communicator, knowledge broker, writer, and facilitator. This work often takes the form of supporting the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of wild and natural places as well as fostering a greater connection between people and the world we inhabit.
