Yoga therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well being through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga. The practice of yoga therapy requires specialised training and skill development to support the relationship between the client/student and therapist and to effect positive change for the individual.
Specific training to become a yoga therapist is to have a minimum of 650 hours over a minimum of 2 years. This is in addition to a solid foundation in yoga teaching to include a minimum of: 350 hours of training over 2 years, 300 hours of regular yoga teaching, and a regular personal practice of 2 years.
If your Yoga Therapist qualification is not one that is automatically recognised YogaNZ would ask for you to complete the mapping document to provide in depth information on your Yoga Therapist training and experience to match to the education standards. This process may also include a verification process with YogaNZ.
