Tuesday 24thSeptember 2019.
Yoga New Zealand (YogaNZ), the new national organisation for yoga professionals, is now run by New Zealanders for yoga teachers and yoga therapists teaching in NZ. We develop, nurture and support yoga in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Yoga teachers and yoga therapists are now welcomed to the YogaNZ whanau to join as members.
YogaNZ honours different styles, traditions and backgrounds of yoga, reflects Aotearoa New Zealand’s bi-cultural nature and connects with Maori values. This is achieved by bringing together a community of yoga professionals interested in supporting each other as well as continuing to develop skills, knowledge and experience.
YogaNZ links with international yoga networks and initiatives to pursue best practice and facilitate the two-way sharing of knowledge. Collaborating with these international organisations also enhances the international standing of Yoga in Aotearoa New Zealand.
YogaNZ promotes best practice, including quality standards for teaching and training. We plan to educate and inform the general community, government agencies, medical and complimentary professionals about yoga. Standards for registering begin with 200 hours of teacher training, the norm for NZ teachers, with further levels at 350, 500, and 1000 hours, based on worldwide best practice.
Yoga teachers and therapists can now register on line. Annual membership can include liability insurance, creating outstanding value for less than $200 ongoing. Use code joinnow to save the normal $57.50 application fee until 31 October 2019. Click here to complete the Joining Form
The Yoga New Zealand Council has been formed to give guidance to Yoga NZ on matters appropriate to the community and the organisation’s membership. Click here to see the profiles of the council members.
YogaNZ will support yoga around New Zealand by connecting local initiatives and bringing together yoga communities. The sharing and development of skills and knowledge enables our professional members bring added appropriate benefits to all New Zealanders practicing yoga.
A registration programme for locally delivered yoga teacher training is being set up to reflect the unique elements of yoga in New Zealand, including commitment to bi-culturalism and effective health and safety.
It’s an exciting time for YogaNZ and we look forward to rolling out further developments at the Hauora Yoga Conference (www.hauorayoga.org.nz) as well as more over the next 12 months.
